Lecture led by the teacher: Miguel Alfonso León Acuña. Digital preservation is a set of activities that guarantee the continuity, integrity, authenticity and availability of digital documents over time. This task is essential for the fulfillment of the functions and obligations of public and private entities, as well as for the safeguarding of documentary heritage and the historical memory of society. However, digital preservation faces various challenges, such as technological obsolescence, the fragility of media, the diversity of formats, the interoperability of systems, information security and compliance with legal and technical standards. Therefore, the archival professional must be trained to adopt policies, strategies, processes and procedures that ensure the durability and accessibility of digital documents for as long as necessary, according to their administrative, legal, fiscal, historical or cultural value.
