The dictator fled the capital in a plane as the rebel offensive approached. Political prisoners were also reportedly released. The information was released in a televised statement on the state channel. The opposition reported that the rebels invaded the presidential palace and tore up documents from the deposed government, while soldiers and police abandoned their posts.
