HOW TO CALCULATE THE SECTION OF THE PILLAR • #DICARV18 - HOW TO CALCULATE THE SECTION OF ... The calculation of the reinforcement of the pillars must comply with the recommendations of NBR 6118 - Reinforced Concrete Structures. It takes into account the slenderness ratio, the buckling coefficient, the load from the beams, the cross-sectional area, the fck of the concrete and the allowable compressive stress of the steel. If the value of the formulation is negative, a minimum reinforcement ratio is used for the columns, which depends on the slenderness ratio. For a slenderness ratio of less than 50, the minimum reinforcement ratio is equivalent to 0.5% of the cross-sectional area of the concrete. For a slenderness ratio greater than 50, it is equivalent to 0.8% of this area. The gauge used in columns must not be less than 10 mm. The stirrup gauge must be at least 1/4 of the longitudinal reinforcement gauge, which is at least 5 mm. The spacing of the stirrups must be 12 times the longitudinal reinforcement gauge. The maximum distance between the longitudinal bars must be 20 times the stirrup gauge.
