Lāčplēš Day in Latvia symbolizes the perseverance of our people and the fight for freedom. This day reminds us of the brave soldiers who defended the independence of Latvia, as well as the responsibility and readiness to protect our land today and in the future. Since the occupation of Crimea in 2014, Latvia and its National Armed Forces (NBS) have significantly strengthened their defense capabilities in response to the growing threat from Russia. The annexation of Crimea served as a stark reminder to the entire world that aggression can escalate rapidly, threatening democratic values and stability. Since then, the NBS has been actively working in three main directions - strengthening strength, mobility and flexibility in order to significantly improve its operational capabilities and ensure combat readiness. In this video, we will look at how the modernization of the NBS marks a purposeful development of Latvia in defense, which helps to strengthen the security of our country both locally and internationally.
