I will use these simple H-anchors as post supports for a post thickness of 9 cm. They will be set in concrete here later and I will see what height makes sense here. Wooden posts should not have any contact with the ground later. I correct the mason's line to the desired height and use a 120 cm spirit level to make sure that the line is horizontal. This works well if you hold the spirit level to the line from below and place one end on the line nail. Now I mark the locations for the foundations with marking spray. The foundation holes are dug out with a spade and are about 25 cm wide and about 70 cm deep. I use ready-mixed screed concrete, which is also good as foundation concrete because of the coarse chippings. You can buy the cheap bagged stuff from the hardware store. You need about 1.5 bags per foundation. You can mix it well in a masonry bucket, but it is important not to use too much water because we want to be able to set the H-anchor easily later. Now I fill the hole with the damp concrete. High enough so that the H-anchor can be set at the desired height. Roughly align it with the 40 cm spirit level. Then fill it a little higher and it is also important to compact it, for example with a roof batten to achieve later strength. I check the alignment to the string with a steel angle. And finally check again with the spirit level. I have now laid a few foundations here in this way. The spacing is chosen so that 1.8m standard slatted fence elements will fit between the posts later. Next, a second row of foundations will be laid parallel to this. To do this, I use string nails again and a string that runs at right angles to the existing string. I set all the strings at the same height using the spirit level. Now the distance to the next row of foundations can be measured along the second string. To do this, I calculate the 10 cm width of the post support plus the 180 cm desired space between the posts. Here, too, I set string nails and stretch the string. I measure at the front and back so that the strings run parallel. Now the foundations can be made. Now all the foundations are ready and the strings can be removed. The ground inside the foundations is now leveled. Then a 20 cm thick layer of mineral gravel 0/32 is applied and compacted.
