After a month of absence, Peggy enters her parents' house in Zeitz full of anticipation and beams at her mother. Unfortunately, her mother Kerstin cannot return the favor - it is unclear whether she even recognizes her daughter. If so, she can no longer communicate it. The 66-year-old has suffered from Alzheimer's since she was 55. The disease has now progressed far and demands a lot from her daughter. Peggy wants to support her mother through the disease as best as possible, but she lives with her own family several hundred kilometers away. Vreni from Schopfheim also has dementia and has changed a lot. It is currently unclear whether and for how long the 84-year-old will be able to live at home. Her daughter Sonja tries tirelessly to maintain closeness to her mother and to give her at least a feeling of familiarity through her support amidst her disorientation. Two women who accompany their mothers through the depressing course of the disease that is slowly causing them to slip out of life.
