For a week in autumn 2018, author Cosima Jagow-Duda went to a secure dementia unit to find out. She doesn't just want to observe with her camera, she wants to accompany the staff and meet the people. She quickly realises: people with dementia have usually only lost their orientation and their memory. They can still feel. Depending on how they are that day, they are open or withdrawn, in a good or bad mood, attentive or switched off. They pay no attention to the needs of others and don't pretend, because they experience the world around them in a similar way to small children. Through attention and physical contact, through old songs and melodies, through clear language, through pictures, photos and colors, you can still appeal to their emotions, even when their minds have long since become tired. The report shows surprising insights into the otherwise well-shielded black box dementia ward. #dementia #dementia #care #careprofessional #old people's home
