The latest polls before the runoff place the Frente Amplio candidate Yamandú Orsi ahead of the Republican coalition candidate, Álvaro Delgado. In any case, the difference between the two is very narrow and there are still five days left before the polls open. In this scenario, the government claims that, as in the first round, the polls “are undervaluing” Delgado and they are confident of victory. They also maintain that the former Secretary of the Presidency is capable of retaining almost all of the votes that the government parties collected on October 27, when they added 47.5% of the votes, more than 90,000 votes above Orsi, who obtained 43.9% of the votes. In his last campaign activities, Delgado highlights his experience in government and his capacity for dialogue. He also states that the Frente Amplio “has been pushed far to the left” and represents a “step backwards” for Uruguay. In fact, that was one of his main messages in the debate he had with Orsi last Sunday. We spoke with Álvaro Delgado at En Perspectiva to find out how he is facing the end of his campaign and his main government proposals.
