Shinbashi in Tokyo is known nationwide as a "salaryman's mecca." It is a town of relaxation for working people, lined with affordable restaurants, izakayas, bars, and ticket shops. However, after large-scale redevelopment in the surrounding areas and the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been changes in the flow of people and it is said that the area is losing its vitality. The New Shimbashi Building, a landmark at the station's west exit, is over 50 years old and showing signs of aging. In order to avoid being left behind by other areas, plans are underway to redevelop the building and build a high-rise building. However, with rising construction costs and other changes in the economic environment, a concrete vision is yet to emerge. Meanwhile, an eight-storey building facing the SL Square at the station's west exit was renovated as a new leisure facility and opened in November. The site had been vacant for over two years after a large electronics retailer withdrew from the space. The developments surrounding the west exit of Shimbashi Station show the forefront of urban redevelopment. #Shinbashi #NewShimbashiBuilding #Redevelopment #SLSquare #Salaryman #ConstructionCosts #Tokyo #GaiaNoYoake #TVTokyoBIZ
