On August 15, 2024, the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) entered into force. This agreement was signed as a direct consequence of the deteriorating security situation in Europe following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The development has fundamentally changed the conditions for Swedish security policy. Against this background, the Swedish government argues that Sweden needs to adapt to complex security developments, both as an independent nation and in cooperation with others. DCA enables an even closer cooperation between Sweden and the USA, both bilaterally and within NATO's framework. During this seminar, we will discuss the importance of the agreement for Sweden in the changed security situation, the potential benefits it can bring and possible risks. Sweden's defense policy has historically been characterized by strong popular support and a clear stance against nuclear weapons. Can this agreement challenge these principles and affect Swedish sovereignty? To shed light on these issues, Folk och Försvar is arranging a seminar that aims to clarify what DCA means and what effects it can have for our country.
