Published in 1946, the book “Água Funda” by writer Ruth Guimarães is one of the great examples of regionalist literature, so dear to authors linked to Brazilian Modernism. The novel addresses issues that include love, guilt, arrogance, social memory and popular beliefs; all of this marked by the perspective of an author who not only read about rural Brazil in the early 20th century, but also lived in that region.
