Liquid nitrogen has a temperature of minus 196 degrees Celsius. At such extremely cold temperatures, materials change their properties. Our ambient air becomes liquid, rubber hoses become hard, and bananas can be used as hammers. When the cold, liquid nitrogen heats up, it becomes gaseous and expands enormously. This effect can be used, for example, to inflate balloons, drive a steam engine, or to create effective explosions with a lot of steam.
