In the 1960s, the Romanian market was dominated by a few modest models produced in the countries of the Eastern European bloc. However, at that time, the idea of manufacturing Romanian cars arose, the proposal coming from Nicolae Ceaușescu long before he became the leader of the country. During a visit to a congress of Italian communists, Ceaușescu had the opportunity to visit the Fiat factories, where he was impressed by the production technology and the large number of Fiats that were circulating on the roads of Italy. He noticed the contrast between the Italian worker, who had his own car, and the Romanian worker, who lacked this possibility. Thus, it was decided that we, too, should produce cars for our workers in the country. The proposal was also supported by the other leaders at the top of power. Despite the fact that other member countries of the communist bloc, such as Hungary and Bulgaria, did not produce cars, Romania already had experience in this field thanks to the Aro factory in Câmpulung Muscel. ????
