From August 12th to 29th, 2018, I cycled through the south of Scotland on a 1,667 km round trip. In the first part, I start in Newcastle upon Tyne in England after taking the ferry from Ijmuiden in Holland. I cycle along the northernmost border line of the former Roman Empire, Hadrian's Wall, to Carlisle before heading north towards Scotland. I battle rain and wind, cycle through landscapes that remind me strongly of my home region of the Harz, learn what pizza means in British, and get a first taste of the Scotland we know from film and television with the ruins of an old abbey.
