He began his artistic career in 1937 but it was in 1939 that his song Mi chata launched him to fame. He composed more than 200 songs, several of them for the cinema. He ventured into said art as an actor, such as the film La cucaracha alongside María Félix and Pedro Armendáriz. He died at the age of 79.
