The Cuban Revolution was and still is in historical literature the ideal model of an armed popular revolution against a dictatorial regime that it supported and succeeded in overthrowing despite the support of the United States. The young lawyer Fidel Castro succeeded, with the help of his brother Raul Castro and a number of loyal militants, in overthrowing the regime of dictator Fulgencio Batista after a period of guerrilla warfare led by Castro in cooperation with the enthusiastic Argentine doctor Ernesto Che Guevara, who accompanied him with a few dozen armed opponents who landed on the coast of Cuba armed with rifles and fought in the Cuban forests and mountains against the Cuban army and police forces until they took control of the main cities and then the capital Havana, which forced Batista to finally give up power. Fidel Castro rose to power after the Cuban Revolution, then turned to the communist regime and to an alliance with the Soviet Union after the United States abandoned Cuba and imposed a trade embargo on it after Castro carried out his agricultural and social reform and nationalized many American and foreign interests. The United States cut off its imports of sugar, which is the main resource for Cuba. The United States sought With all its power and cunning, it tried to overthrow Fidel Castro, eliminate his movement, and even assassinate him, but it was unable to do so. Cuba is located close to the American border, which made it an important ally for the Soviet Union, which was initially skeptical of Castro's loyalty to communist ideas, until Cuba became an important ally for Moscow throughout the Cold War years.
