The Heckmair Route 2024 - from Oberstdorf to Riva del Garda by mountain bike Crossing the Alps on the so-called "Heckmair Route" from Oberstdorf, Germany via Austria, Switzerland to Riva del Garda, Italy by enduro mountain bike in July 2024. On 6 stages and slight modifications to the route (because we were tired of carrying the bike on day 5 and were therefore skipped), pretty much every mountain that lay ahead of us was taken. Similar to the Joe Route of 2021, the Heckmair Route is peppered with impressive scenery, but we found day 3 in particular to be extremely physically demanding and overall harder than "Joe". With a total of one flat tire, which was quickly patched with a "sausage" and a small laceration on the knee, there were no further breakdowns or damage. Each individual stage was unique and impressive. While stages 3 and 4 are the absolute highlight, the entire route with all the countless and sometimes tough climbs is necessary to be able to appreciate the overall experience. Stage 5 would leave the Heckmair route and switch to the Joe route via the Tonale Pass. There is also a video about this in the same channel ( • Crossing the Alps with the MTB on... ). After arriving in Riva del Garda, we stayed in Riva for a whole day. The return journey was then made by shuttle bus from Torbole to Munich Central Station and from there by S-Bahn back to Kaufering, from where we had also started our journey to Oberstdorf by train. The tour was carried out by three friends from the Aachen area, Germany. All three are members of the mountain bike club Geländefahrrad Aachen (gelaendefahrrad-aachen.de). Some of these jerseys will be worn on the tour. It is not an official tour of the club, but we were still happy to show and wear the jerseys.
