Christmas may seem like a cosy and cheerful holiday, but some creepy legends make it a truly scary time! In Iceland, there’s the Yule Cat, a giant cat who eats anyone who doesn’t get new clothes for Christmas, so you better hope for new socks this year. Then there’s Krampus, a sinister half-goat, half-demon figure from Central Europe who punishes naughty children by stuffing them into his sack. In Scandinavia, there’s the Nisse, a mischievous gnome-like creature who protects farms but can turn evil if you forget to leave him a bowl of porridge. Wales is famous for its Mari Lwyd, a ghostly horse figure with an actual horse skull who goes door to door challenging people to rhyming battles (yes, it’s as weird as that sounds). So while Christmas can be magical, these legends add a dark twist to the festive fun!
