More and more people in Germany are affected by poverty or live on the breadline. More and more medium-sized companies are threatened with bankruptcy. The current crisis is exacerbating the divide between rich and poor in Germany and has long since affected large parts of the middle class, especially if you have no assets. For 60% of the population, income is barely enough to last until the end of the month. Yet there are trillions of euros in private assets in Germany. Who exactly is affected by the current crisis? What is politics doing about it? Who is left behind? MONITOR director Georg Restle discusses this with his guests: Ulrich Schneider (Managing Director of the German Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband), Sarah Zickler (General Secretary of the Association of Liberal Mittelstand), Prof. Marcel Fratzscher (President of the German Institute for Economic Research) and journalist and bestselling author Ulrike Herrmann.
