You have autism, but you want to appear as 'normal' as possible. So you observe people, try to understand their social behaviour and copy it. So that you are accepted and can participate with others. But it takes a lot of effort and you can get really tired of it. Copying social behaviour is the theme of this broadcast of AutismeTV. The reason is a presentation by psychologist Will Mandy of University College London on this subject during the INSAR local community conference in Amsterdam on 9 May 2018 in collaboration with UVA and the two academic workplaces Reach-Aut and SamenDoen. What is camouflage? What does it yield and what are the consequences? Is there a difference between men and women. Will Mandy did research into this and talks about it in his lecture. At AutismeTV this is discussed with clinical psychologist Els Blijd-Hoogewys. She is involved in various studies, including on Autism in Women. Broadcast length 38 minutes
