Function in plants • Activator and constituent of enzymes • Affects electronic transport in photosynthesis and activation of some enzymes that help in CO2 fixation • Activates enzymes that are precursors of lignin • Reduces nitrogen fixation • Helps prevent fungal diseases due to lignification of the cell wall, and contains less active O2 which is harmful to pathogens Copper deficiency • Moderate deficiency does not present symptoms • Young leaves become dark green and may later contain necrosis that begins at the edges and progresses to the center.
