The rifle battalion, consisting of eighteen-year-old cadets, led by a general, covered the bridge from Gostomel to Kyiv, almost the only likely place for the Russians to break through. On February 25, the students took their first battle with the enemy's DRG, not knowing the real number of enemy forces and equipment, the cadets resisted the Russians' attempts to feel the weak points of the defense for almost a month. As more than a hundred years ago, the cadets of the military educational institution, during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, repeated the feat of their peers - the defenders of Krut, who in February 1918 delayed the Bolshevik attack on the Ukrainian capital.
