Also called Castillo de la Muela, it is located in the municipality of Consuegra, province of Toledo. It is located next to the Molinos de Consuegra, on a mountain (Cerro Calderico). It belonged to Count Don Julian during the time of the Visigoths. Its first reconstruction is attributed to Almanzor (10th century). In 1097, Al Mutamid ceded it to Alfonso VI, since the king married the Sevillian princess Zaida. In August of the same year, Christianity lost the fortress in the battle of Consuegra, in which Diego Rodriguez, the only son of El Cid Campeador, died fighting against the Almoravids. The castle was finally recovered by the Christians in the 12th century.
