As if it was a day like any other, he walked into the Beuklaan in Alblasserdam this morning. But Ronnie was in the national news, because he had been stuck for hours during work in a crawl space under the house. "It was quite a shock," says Ronnie like a real ice queen. "I was lying under the floor and we had to get to the corner house. We couldn't get there through the house, so we had to go through this crawl space. We had dug out the foundation and I went back upstairs. Then the sand collapsed behind me and I got stuck." [Article:199561:Man in Alblasserdam freed from crawl space after hours] ShoutingAdrie was upstairs in the house. "I had already heard him digging," he says. "And at one point I heard him shout a name. Then I had the idea that something was really wrong." A few meters lower, Ronnie could just reach his phone. He used it to call a colleague. Together they then tried to free Ronnie, but that didn't work either. "I went into the crawl space to ask how he was doing," says colleague Toine. "But he just stayed calm. That's the most important thing." Special fire brigade teamIt wasn't an everyday job for the fire brigade either, as became apparent on Tuesday in Alblasserdam. A special team was called in that can help with entrapment. Even the special team that is deployed in disaster relief came to take a look in Alblasserdam. "It was really bizarre," Ronnie continues. "Someone from the fire brigade was with me the whole time. He reassured me. They wanted to insert an IV, administer tranquilizers or painkillers, but none of that was necessary."FreeAnd so the hours passed. And after quite a bit of digging, they managed to free him. "I was just dizzy for a moment," says Ronnie. "But after that it actually went quite well. Do I want a beer now? No, just some sugar. I'll have a coke in a minute."
