Precise scale replica of the building in the Lower Rhine Open Air Museum in Grefrath in the Viersen district. In cooperation with the Grefrath Open Air Museum, the Modellbahn Union is authentically reconstructing the museum buildings as models in 1:87 and 1:160. This house, which is part of the Waldniel farm complex in the open air museum, comes from Waldniel in what is now the municipality of Schwalmtal. The building was originally a purely half-timbered house, with large parts of the facade replaced with field-fired bricks in 1785. The small barn from 1802 and the large one, which was built in 1791, belong to the farm complex and come from other Lower Rhine farms. The coach house is a reconstruction from around 1800. Overall, the farm complex is typical of the 19th century. The advancing industrialization also brought changes to the farms. Many small farmers and day laborers had to look for work in the factories because what they earned on the farms was no longer enough to make a living. Freedom of trade led to great competition and thus high price pressure, which many could not withstand. In addition, women had to replace the workforce that had been lost when men moved to the urban factories. Wealthy owners modernized and expanded their farms. But living conditions also changed: With growing health awareness and the findings of modern medicine, the demand for hygiene and thus for sanitary facilities increased. Running water, toilets and bathrooms came into increasing use. ⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯ #ModelRailway #Lasercut
