The so-called "Blue Zones" consist of 5 places where people live longer and healthier than the rest of the world. These are Okinawa, Sardinia, Nicoya - the peninsula in Costa Rica, Loma Linda in California and the island of Ikaria in Greece. Ikaria can be reached by small plane from Athens, but we went from Belgrade by car, then by ferry to this island in the Aegean Sea. Immediately upon arrival, we realized that tourism here started not so long ago and that it is not as developed as on other Greek islands. Already in September, the beaches are deserted, the outgoing ferries are fuller than the incoming ones, and now more locals are coming down from the surrounding mountain villages. Most of the settlements on Ikaria lie at an altitude of close to 1000 meters above sea level. The slopes are steep and rocky, but then again, Ikaria is one of the greenest islands in Greece. Coniferous forests and medicinal plants that are widely used by the local population dominate. A little more than 8,000 people live on this island, among whom are many vital ninety-year-olds. We spent more than 10 days on Ikaria in search of their recipe for longevity. We can't say for sure that we found it, but we definitely noticed clean air, home-made healthy food, red wine, obligations that impose daily movement up and down hills, socializing and a sense of belonging to a community, finding purpose even in later years, not paying attention to time or are they late somewhere, song and dance, humor full of irony and of course, as much as it seems impossible to us nowadays, Ikarians live without any stress. #sasvimprirodno #jovanmemedovic #ikaria #bluezones #longevity #longlife #nature #food Website: https://sasvimprirodno.rs Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jovanmemedo...
