Welcome to episode 6/11 of the DIARIOMOTOR 4X4 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, a television series that we also publish on YouTube, in which 12 of the best 4x4 vehicles for sale in Spain compete to find out who will be the 4x4 world champion. In this sixth episode, which corresponds to the second quarter-finals, we pit the Volkswagen Touareg against the Land Rover Defender over three completely new tests that will give us a winner, who qualifies for the semi-finals, and a loser, who will be eliminated from the 4x4 world championship. You can check the rules of the world championship here: https://www.diariomotor.com/noticia/m... The Volkswagen Touareg is a luxury SUV strictly for asphalt, but it belongs to a lineage that began with a first Touareg that had a reducer and rear locking, so it inherits notable 4x4 capabilities. The Touareg unit we tested has the off-road package, so it has everything it can have to overcome the obstacles that come its way: permanent 4x4 traction, central differential lock, very aggressive off-road driving modes with traction control and an air suspension that lifts the car up to 25 cm off the ground. The Land Rover Defender is a pure off-roader, although very well finished, which is specifically built to drive off the asphalt. The unit tested has a central locking, it does not have a rear locking although it is an option, and it possibly has the most advanced traction control in the world. All this is combined with an air suspension that raises it up to 29 cm above the ground, giving rise to spectacular approach, departure and ventral angles. In the end, it is about checking if they are two luxury SUVs, two off-roaders, and which of the two is more capable when taken to the limit.
