On November 22, 1999, a T-33A trainer belonging to the Air Self-Defense Force's Iruma Base crashed into the riverbed of the Irumagawa River. There were no casualties on the ground, but the two crew members on board were killed in the line of duty, and it was later revealed that there was a high possibility that they had continued to pilot the aircraft at the risk of their lives.
