#cnnkazankodookienka Sermon for the 4th Sunday of Advet (Year B). Sermon for Sunday, every Sunday, or Word For Sunday:) _______________________________________ 1st reading (2 Sm 7:1-5. 8b-12. 14a. 16) When King David had settled in his house, and the Lord had subdued all his enemies around, the king said to the prophet Nathan, "Look, I am dwelling in a house of cedar, and the ark of God dwells in a tent." Nathan said to the king, "Do whatever is in your heart, for the Lord is with you." But that same night the Lord spoke these words to Nathan: "Go and tell my servant David: Thus says the Lord: 'Will you build me a house to dwell in? I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people Israel. And I was with you wherever you went, and I cut off all your enemies before you. I will make you the name of the greatest men in the land. I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and I will settle them there, and they will dwell in their place; they will no longer be moved, nor will wicked men oppress them as before. From the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel, I gave you peace from all their enemies. And the Lord said to you, "The Lord himself will build you a house. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, then I will raise up your offspring after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. I will be a father to him, and he shall be my son. Your house and your kingdom shall endure before me forever. Your throne shall be established forever." 2nd reading (Rom 16:25-27) Brothers: To him who is able to establish you according to the gospel and my preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revealed mystery, hidden for ages past, but now made manifest, made known to all nations by the commandment of the eternal God through the prophetic writings, for the obedience of faith; to God alone is wise, through Jesus Christ, glory forever and ever! Amen. Gospel (Lk 1:26-38) The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And when he came in to her, the angel said, "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women." She was troubled at these words, and pondered what this greeting could mean. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no husband?" The angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. For with God nothing will be impossible." Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
