Madagascar is the world's second largest producer and the largest exporter of cloves and clove oil. Introduced to Madagascar a little less than two centuries ago, the cultivation of this spice has developed very quickly. Currently, there are more than 31,000 clove producers on the Big Island, each of whom has between 10 and 1,000 clove trees. This film presents this little-known and yet profitable sector for a large number of small farmers on the East Coast of Madagascar and for the country's economy.
