January 29, 2008 Tuesdays at the Espace des sciences with Claude Berrou, Engineer, Director of Studies at ENST Bretagne, Director of UMR TAMCIC, member of the Academy of Sciences. Information theory, as an established science, is just sixty years old. It has been at the origin of many inventions that have allowed the tremendous growth of telecommunications and telematics. But if science is young, the object of its exploration - information - is as old as the world. Whether it is its writing, its protection, its transport, its restitution or its interpretation, information is the primary substance of systems, material or human, which communicate and evolve. It is therefore natural that the concepts and techniques that have emerged from information theory are open to the world. The first part of the presentation will present the most significant repercussions of information theory on telecommunications and the second part will give examples of dissemination in other fields such as genetics or cognitive science. http://www.espace-sciences.org/confer...
