Classic cabin ride on metro E from Slinge (Rotterdam) to The Hague Central. Rolling stock: 1 x RSG3 In this video I take you with metro E on the way back to The Hague Central. Didn't see the outward journey? You can find it here: • Classic Cabin Ride Metro / RandstadR... This ride is during sunset, so we arrive in The Hague in the dark. With all the lights around The Hague Central, it's still a beautiful sight! 0:12 We are ready to leave. Because the metro has just been decoupled, we are quite a bit further away from the end of the platform. We encounter the metro we decoupled from again at Laan van NOI station. 1:17 A small spot on the windshield. Don't panic; we'll work on it soon ;) 3:25 Departure from Zuidplein station. On the right is the new Zuidplein bus station. In this video, this bus station is still under construction; this bus station is now in use. This video was filmed in April of this year. 10:20 On the right the connecting curve. This is a single track with which the north-south tracks are connected to the east-west tracks. It is mainly used for exchanging vehicles between the Waalhaven and 's-Gravenweg yards, and for instruction rides. It is not used for passenger rides. 15:10 The metro network uses the LZB track safety system. Here we switch to the safety system on RandstadRail: ZUB. From here we drive on light signals along the track. The green light in the cabin now also disappears, as it can now be found along the track. 18:14 When exiting the tunnel, we turn onto the former Hofplein line again. From here we follow the route that was also used by the NS Sprinters. On the right the bus garage, and tram/metro workshop Kleiweg. 18:50 Melanchtonweg station. Here we switch from voltage rail to overhead line. 20:30 Meijersplein / Airport station. The direct connection to the airport unfortunately never came. Instead, there is a transfer to a direct bus here. 21:38 The former Wilgenplas station. This station has been closed and replaced by Meijersplein station. Only the former station building is still there. 22:55 Rodenrijs station provides a connection to the ZoRo bus lane. This is also part of RandstadRail. This bus lane connects metro E with the trams of the HTM in Zoetermeer. On the right, the former station building. Now in use as a pancake restaurant. 28:27 We pass the Koningshof reversing track here. This track was recently constructed in order to be able to double the frequency between Rotterdam and Pijnacker Zuid in the future. In this way, the extra metros can reverse on their own track, without getting in the way of the next metro. 32:39 Nootdorp station. This is the last station that is under the infrastructure management of the RET. After this we will also move on to the traffic control of the HTM. 34:35 A nice bundle of tracks. To our left and immediately to our right are the tracks of trams 3 and 4 that connect from Zoetermeer. On the far left is the ProRail track from the Nootdorpboog. This track was constructed during the construction of RandstadRail. Due to the disconnection of these tracks from the ProRail track, trains could no longer reach the Leidschendam workshop via the Hofpleinlijn. This has been solved in this way. From this point we will continue with a track section speed of 80 km/h. Up until now we have driven 100 km/h because this is the maximum speed of the metros. The low-floor trams of the HTM have a maximum speed of 80 km/h. 35:05 Leidschenveen station. Because different vehicles are active on RandstadRail, the stations on the confluence section have different platform heights. Low for the trams; high for the metros 37:30 We are approaching the HTM Leidschenveen yard on our left. The metros can no longer come here. The large gray building on the left of the picture is the NS workshop. Want to know what this looks like? @MachinistStefan made a video about it: • Train Cab Ride NL / Washing at Shunti... 41:40 Before RandstadRail could be constructed, the order of the tracks had to be reversed. That is why the RandstadRail dives under the train tracks here to end up on the right side. 43:28 Just as RandstadRail metro E is linked to the Rotterdam metro network, RandstadRail trams 3 and 4 are linked to the Hague tram network. Here, these lines diverge, to then continue as a tram. 44:00 Approaching The Hague Central Station. Previously, the terminus of metro E was on tracks 11 and 12 of the NS station. These tracks will be needed by the NS in the future, which is why a new metro station has been built for the RandstadRail. This station is about 20 meters above street level! The Hague skyline in the evening is beautiful, but of course it doesn't come close to the Rotterdam skyline ;). Thanks for watching, and until next time!
