About :

Grazhdanskaya Oborona is a Soviet and Russian rock band founded on November 8, 1984 in Omsk by Yegor Letov and Konstantin Ryabinov, the most notable representative of Siberian punk rock. The band's music at the initial stage was punk rock with a strong garage influence, which remained throughout the band's creative activity, and in the 1990s its style shifted towards psychedelic rock. Grazhdanskaya Oborona was one of the most influential punk rock bands of the USSR and Russia. The band broke up in 2008 after the death of Yegor Letov. Same as Poganaya Molodezh. Songs - mid/late 1985. The title track was soulfully performed by two people - with Valery Rozhkov, a flutist and guitarist of the Usolye-Siberian band Flirt. A suspicious mix of "wave", punk and idiocy, like in the previous album. - Egor Letov. "Official albumography of GrOb-Records" (1990). "POGANAYA MOLODEZH" / "OPTIMISM" - in theory, this is the first single long album of G.O., which was recorded many times in 1985 and then regularly released under all sorts of exotic titles: "The Best of G.O.", "Ponosnye Zvuchaniya G.O. (double, part 1 - "Filthy Youth", part 2 - "Optimism"), "The First and Last Album of G.O.", "The History of Omsk Punk - part 2", simply "Civil Defense", etc. All these recordings were of variously monstrous quality and absolutely inhumane to the listener (instead of drums, anything was performed and recorded - from a briefcase to a pioneer drum and a hit-hat cymbal nailed to a wooden block, the words are extremely illegible, a complete non-combatant, etc.). There were some very strange variations: for example, one of the albums was played almost entirely on a homemade keyboard synthesizer (!), another (also not preserved, unfortunately) was interspersed with absurdist, super-short speeches and inserts in the spirit of concrete music a la "Communism" of the middle and late periods. In those recordings, in addition to Kuzma and me, a certain number of all sorts of people also took part, some of whose names are impossible to even remember. It all ended with the group being mercilessly dispersed by state punitive organs at the end of 85, I was forcibly sent to a mental hospital, Kuzma - to the army, and all this material sort of hung for two years. For the first time in a digestible sound, it appeared on the album/compilation "Red Album", recorded by me alone in the summer of 87. What are the so-called "first" albums of G.O., popularly known as "Filthy Youth" and "Optimism" - in general, these are remakes of material from the first aforementioned super-long album of G.O. from 1985, recorded mainly on January 12-22 of 1988 after Kuzma Ryabinov returned from the army and rehabilitation from it. At the same time, some of the things were completely redone (as later, a year later, the material for the album "Posev"), some were recreated using ancient (1985) tracks. At the same time, the resulting albums themselves underwent repeated remixing and rearrangement, carried out by me over the next few years. In this case, you have one of the first, "original" versions. The division of the material into albums was carried out according to the following principle: "Filthy Youth" included compositions from the repertoire of the group "Posev", as well as those composed in the earliest period of G.O.'s existence. (that is, November 84 - early spring 85). In "Optimism" - later, spring-summer-autumn 1985 things (with the exception of such opuses as "I Am Illusory", "Children's World" and others, successfully performed and included in the "Red Album". - Egor Letov. Author's commentary on the re-release of the album (4.07.2005). Contents: 00:00 I am useless 03:09 I puke on your deeds 05:19 Before our eyes 08:22 Maple leaf 10:16 Hey, woman, puke! 13:12 Who is looking for meaning 17:07 Dog 20:59 It was not me 23:01 Optimism 25:05 The children's doctor said: "Cool" 29:00 No need Egor Letov - voice, guitars, bass, drums; Kuzya Uo - bass, guitars, voice; Valery Rozhkov — flute ("Optimism"). Recorded January 12–22, 1988 in GrOb-studio, except: 03, 06 — July 1985, Zvezdny Cultural Center (revised in January 1988); 09 — August 1986, Omsk State University laboratory (presumably); 11 — July 1985, Zvezdny Cultural Center. Mixed in this version by Egor Letov in 1989.
