Civic-military parade: 212 years of the Cry of Independence. Friday, September 16, 2022 President AMLO. In the Zócalo of Mexico City, prior to the civic-military parade of the 212th Anniversary of the Cry of Independence, we presented the proposal that we will make from the Executive Branch to the United Nations General Assembly to stop the war in Ukraine and achieve a peace truce with the aim of addressing the problems of poverty, health and violence from the governments. We reaffirm the position of rejecting war and foreign interventions. The initiative includes the immediate suspension of military actions and provocations, as well as nuclear and missile tests; it establishes the commitment of all States to avoid confrontations and not to intervene in internal conflicts. In addition, the creation of a committee to promote dialogue between the presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin and Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Pope Francis, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UN Secretary-General António Guterres will serve as possible mediators, if they agree. Without peace, there will be no economic growth, much less justice. We hope to be successful with this initiative; whatever happens, fighting for justice and peace will never be in vain. The person in charge of presenting the document, on behalf of the Government of Mexico, will be the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon. We thank the special guests for attending the ceremony and the civic-military parade. These are human beings who symbolize ideals and historic struggles for a just, egalitarian and fraternal world, heirs of women and men of unwavering faith, courage and dignity. We had the honor of receiving the former presidents of Uruguay, José Alberto Mujica and Bolivia, Evo Morales, whom we recognize for their wisdom, honesty and bravery. Also present were John Shipton and Gabriel, father and brother of Julian Assange, an activist for whom we demand his freedom. Aleida Guevara, daughter of Ernesto Ché Guevara, was another of the special guests, along with the family of César Chávez, leader and defender of Mexican workers, migrants and agricultural day laborers. We recognize the loyalty of the Armed Forces, the Navy and National Defense Secretariats, as well as the National Guard, in their work to guarantee public safety with respect for human rights. The 2022 civic-military parade took place without incident and the authorities reported no injuries.
