The sun was shining in the church square of Nonaspe when, at 12 noon, the long-awaited chupinazo (starting shot) that marked the beginning of the patron saint festivities was about to take place. The square was full when San Bartolomé left the church, waiting for his traditional putting on of the handkerchief, which this year was in charge of the 'Volats' group, a very emotional act that brought together all the members of this group. When the explosions began to resonate throughout the town, the ringing of the church bells began, which added a ceremonial atmosphere to this event full of emotion and tradition. The neighbours, in their best festive clothes, represented their groups with their respective bibs and t-shirts. "The people of Nonaspe live these festivities with great enthusiasm and energy, every 23rd of August the chupinazo (starting shot) of our main festivities cannot be missed," said Fernando Taberner, mayor of Nonaspe. ????
