Cold winter days, time with family and friends and of course the festive treats: Even in East Frisia, the Christmas season is always something very special. Old traditions are maintained here on the rough North Sea coast, but there are also people with new ideas. Britta von Lucke wants to get to know them. What do East Frisians look forward to most? And what exactly is "Speckendicken?" To find out, she traveled to Leer. She explored the historic old town with its beautiful gabled houses, small shops and cafés and the typical East Frisian cosiness. And she visited a slightly different Christmas market in the historic museum harbor. Festively lit ships and atmospherically decorated wooden stalls with mulled wine, music and arts and crafts: Year after year, the "Wiehnachtsmarkt achter'd Waag" is organized by the members of the Schipper Klottje Leer association. Also in the North Sea Report: Puzzles for St. Nicholas. A miller reveals the Speckendicken secret. And probably the most colorful Christmas house in all of East Frisia.
