I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance that is in Jesus Christ, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10. On the Lord’s day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11. saying, “Write in a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamum, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.” 12. When I turned to see the voice that spoke to me, I saw seven golden lampstands, 13. and in the midst of the lampstands one like the Son of Man, clothed in a robe down to his feet and girded with a golden belt around his chest. 14. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes like a flame of fire. 15. His feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters. 16. And in his right hand were seven stars. And out of his mouth went a sharp double-edged sword, and his face was as the sun shining in its strength. 17. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. Then he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18. I am he who lives and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of Hades and of Death. 19. Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is, and what will take place later. 20. And this is the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.
