Ever since I got into Woody Allen in the 1990s, two-pleat chinos have been a staple for me in my 40s. Whether they're in fashion or not, they're an item I want to keep in the corner of my wardrobe. However, it's actually these kinds of things that are surprisingly susceptible to the influence of trends. Until a few years ago, two-pleat chinos were not found in select shops, let alone traditional brands, but recently they're everywhere. Aren't they a bit too unprincipled? What's more, they have a super tapered silhouette, which is a bit different from what I'm thinking. At that moment, I remembered a store called Pt.Alfred in Ebisu. I used to go there often in the late 90s when I was busy with the magazine ``Begin,'' but I haven't been there for about 10 years. I was worried, wondering if the owner, Motoe-san, was still there? Maybe the store had changed a lot? But my worries were unfounded! Although the store has moved to the first floor of the same building, Motoe's appearance and the atmosphere of the store haven't changed at all since then! I was filled with emotion for a moment as I remembered that I learned about White House Cox belts, Quo Vadis covers, and Felisi bags from this store and "Begin". Pt.Alfred's selling point is its original chinos. As the store was originally established with the theme of chinos and Western items to go with them, the selection is well over 100 models. What's even better is that you can always buy the same model. Even if a store or brand that promotes "traditional" styles changes the silhouette to match the trend, this store will never go out of print, even if the model numbers increase. You can keep buying them even after the current two-tuck boom is over! As Motoe originally worked for a pants brand, he doesn't cut corners when it comes to quality. The chinos, which are made in factories that are suitable for each model and are made with great attention to fabric and sewing, are of much higher quality than any imported brand out there. What's even more surprising is that you can buy these chinos for 16,000 yen plus tax! It probably hasn't changed much since the 90s, but in this day and age where chinos for 30,000 yen are not uncommon, it's a bit worrying. It's probably Motoe's personality that makes such a wide selection and reasonable prices possible. This quality is possible because of his honest work, which always places orders with the factory even when there is no prospect of sales and strives to keep the business running. It can't be imitated overnight. By the way, the key point is that the shelves for chinos in this store are a little hard to reach. This is the result of Motoe's hospitality, which says, "I want to help customers choose something that suits them." Pt.Alfred continues to adhere to the image of a "town clothing store," which is now rare in Ebisu these days...or in Japan. Please feel free to drop by.
