The others are speaking in public for the first time. Their childhood was destroyed, soiled by their father or uncle. Finding words for it and expressing them is difficult - like the burden that has weighed on them for years. The youngest among them, Claire and Chloe, are only 16 and 22 years old. Even as girls, they manage to address some of the unspeakable. Eventually their mothers will listen to them and support them. But the path through the great silence is a long, difficult one for them too. The wall that surrounds this strongest of all taboos seems too insurmountable. "Incest kills, but we have to live," says one of the women who has decided to speak on camera. Depression and suicidal thoughts keep cropping up. The only key to breaking out of it is the word. Revealing the secret, the burden of which is so heavy to bear and destroys you inside. By breaking the taboo, the five courageous women are not only saving their own lives. They are helping to prevent incest from continuing to destroy lives in silence. 51-year-old Sarah Briguet, the former Miss Switzerland, has been the victim of sexual assault by her father since she was seven. Although she tries to find words, no one listens to her as a girl. When she is finally ready, her case has just about expired. For the first time, other women have also agreed to testify on camera. For Marie and Michèle, the trauma of incest is indelible. A lifetime is not enough to make up for it. And that is precisely why they never stop talking about it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:00 Intro 01:33 Chloé talks about abuse by her father 06:30 Claire had to endure indecent touching by her father as a small child 12:15 Parents often cannot imagine incest in their own family 13:32 It was difficult for Chloé to tell the police about the abuse 16:55 Marie remembers her terrible childhood 22:00 Sarah kept quiet about her terrible experiences for a long time 28:44 Michèle is sexually abused by her uncle at the age of five 33:49 At the age of 20, Marie is the only one of five siblings to break her silence 37:38 Sarah turns to a lawyer at the age of 25 39:48 Marie talks about the conflict of turning against her own family 41:51 Chloé and Claire find the courage to report their own fathers 45:12 Today the five women see themselves as survivors ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ▪ A film by Laurence Gemperlé, Frank Preiswerk ▪ Camera: Yvan Thorimbert, Thomas Szczepanski ▪ Editing: Corinne Dubuis ▪ Production: RTS, Ana Bas ▪ Editor: Christina Pollina ▪ Director: Belinda Sallin © 2021 SRF ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is «DOK»: Our in-depth documentaries on topics from society, nature, politics, sport and business.
