Covalent bonds are one of the three main types of intramolecular forces, along with ionic bonds and metallic bonds. Covalent bonds result from atoms sharing their valence electrons. Covalent bonds can be polar or nonpolar, depending on the electronegativity of the atoms involved in the bond. We show five examples of covalent bonds using the Lewis model: HF, CO2, H2, H2O, and CCl4.
