Welcome to Profcoudert's channel, the channel that explains your physics (and chemistry!) lessons in a simple and clear way. We talk a lot about chemical bonds in class, but do you really know what they are? To become stable, atoms must have their outer shell filled. There are two ways to do this: take or give up an electron. The atom then becomes an ion and establishes ionic bonds, sharing electrons with another atom. This is the principle of covalent bonding. If the two atoms have close electronegativities, the bond is symmetrical. Otherwise, it is called polar. A partial positive and negative charge appear on each side of the bond. -----------------------------------
