Making Mistakes Does Not Prevent Being Chosen “His Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous.” (68/Qalam, 50) A person making a mistake and, moreover, being punished for that mistake does not prevent being one of the righteous and chosen. A similar verse applies to Adam (pbuh), who was punished after making a mistake and was later made to repent: “Then his Lord chose him, and accepted his repentance and showed him the way.” (20/Taha, 122) According to revelation, the chosen and righteous person is not a sinless person. On the contrary, it is a person who commits sins but does not persist in sinning. Allah Almighty describes piety, which is another name for being righteous and chosen, as follows: “Those who; when they do evil or wrong themselves, they remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins. And who can forgive sins other than Allah? And they do not persist in what they knowingly did. Their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide forever. How excellent is the reward of those who strive.” (3/Aal-i Imran, 135-136) This is a rule of servitude and should be remembered frequently in order for the walk of servitude to be on the right path. Otherwise, one falls into the most dangerous traps of the path: despair/hopelessness and the understanding that no man is fit for him. Both are practical problems turning into diseases of belief. Because despair carries the seeds of dangerous beliefs such as losing hope in Allah's mercy, seeing one's sins as greater than Allah's mercy and that sins render Him (swt) helpless. The understanding that I cannot be a man is within the scope of having bad thoughts about Allah. After all, guidance and misguidance are in His hands and with His will.
