The classicist Charlottenhof Palace is a unique work of art made up of architecture and landscape, with which Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm (IV) reveals much of his inner life. Dr. Samuel Wittwer, Director of Palaces and Collections at the SPSG, deciphers the messages of the builder. More information on Charlottenhof Palace: https://www.spsg.de/schloesser-gaerte... The conversion of the manor house and the creation of the Charlottenhof park from 1825 onwards were intensively accompanied by the Crown Prince with a large number of ideas and designs. The contract to convert the manor house into a country house for the Crown Prince went to the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781–1841). He was assisted by Ludwig Persius (1803–1845) as the executing "construction conductor". Friedrich Wilhelm already knew Schinkel and Persius from their work for his brother Prince Carl in Glienicke. Schinkel cleverly used the architectural features of the 18th century house and converted it into a small classicist country house in the course of 1826 - the first building to be erected in the Sanssouci Park in the 19th century.
