The second chapter is the first part of three episodes dedicated to the city and port of Veracruz, since it represented the main commercial entry during the viceroyalty of New Spain. They began to arrive on the Veracruz coast in 1519, on the ships of Hernán Cortés. In Veracruz, as in all of Mexico, we recognize ourselves as mestizos, descendants of Spaniards and indigenous people, but the third root, the African one, is present in our daily life and is identifiable in physical features, customs and artistic expressions. With the enslaved people from Africa, not only did the labor force for the plantations, the workshops, and the mining industry arrive, but also customs, music, gastronomy, religious beliefs, plants, fishing practices... and an element that is already part of our way of surviving adversity: resilience.
