During the reign of King Rama V, Siam was forced to trade the fertile land of Battambang to France in exchange for the return of Trat and Dan Sai. This caused Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr, the governor of Battambang, to decide to move into Siam to settle down after the Abhaibhubejhr family had ruled Battambang for more than 100 years.
