Cadets, candidates and sailors of the Argentine Naval Prefecture swore allegiance to the flag and received their sabres and insignia in a ceremony held at the Training Institutes of Zárate, Buenos Aires. The ceremony was presided over by the National Naval Prefect, General Prefect Luis Alberto Heiler, who was accompanied by the National Naval Subprefect, General Prefect Gerardo Horacio Crespo, and the highest staff of the institution. First, the National Prefect gave the cutó (short sabre), a symbol of the prefect's identity, to first-year cadets Joaquín Emilio Pascual and Macarena Ivonne Sarmiento. For his part, the National Subprefect did the same with first-year candidates Diego Nicolás Escalante and Daniela Alejandra Barberán. The Director of the Training Institutes, Major Prefect Osvaldo Carlos Ríos, pointed out in his speech that the cadets, candidates and sailors began a path marked by dedication, sacrifice and responsibility. “This uniform identifies them as members of an institution with a glorious past and a present full of recognition,” said the Director, giving way to an emotional oath of loyalty to the national insignia.
