Construction of the town church probably began in 1292. Construction was completed in 1308 and was already consecrated to Saint Mary at that time. The church tower was not built until 1516, but this was torn down and replaced by a bell tower. This was replaced by a roof turret, which still exists in this place today. The current tower was built in 1913. The last change to the church was the renovation in 1967/68. The church's current bells are roughly made up of two eras. The baroque bells rang unchanged in the church from 1723 until the new large bell was cast in 2008. With it, a new bell tower was installed and the old bells were welded. The church also received two new clock bells to replace the old iron clock bells. The peace bell has rung every Friday at 8 p.m. since then. The three small bells in particular create a very distinctive sound, which is rounded off at the bottom by the very bass-heavy Peace Bell as a foundation.
