In the Market Square in Przemyśl, in the presence of local authorities, invited guests and residents of the city, a ceremonial roll call was held on the occasion of the celebration of the 5th Podhale Riflemen Battalion in Przemyśl. The report from the Commander of the 5th Podhale Riflemen Battalion – Lt. Col. Dariusz Czekaj was received by the Deputy Commander of the 21st Podhale Riflemen Brigade, Col. Jarosław Mokrzycki. The ceremony was led by the Deputy Commander – Chief of Staff of the 5th Podhale Riflemen Battalion, Major Rafał Kluz. During the roll call, the Stars of Afghanistan were presented and the soldiers of the 13th rotation of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan were honored with the “Distinguishing Cord of the Honorary Title Awarded to the Soldiers of the Leading Unit of the Polish Army with 2 Tassels”. In addition, 16 soldiers of the battalion were presented with bronze mountain badges. The soldiers were also distinguished by the Commander of the 21st BSP with the Meritorious Soldier of the Republic of Poland badge and letters of congratulations. The best non-commissioned officer – Sergeant Łukasz Łańcucki and private – Senior Private Damian Bak were also honoured with a symbolic axe. The 5th Podhale Rifle Battalion was established in 2010 by decision of the Minister of National Defence. It took over the banner and traditions of the disbanded 5th Mechanised Battalion from Rzeszów. In order to preserve the memory of military traditions, it cultivates not only the heritage of the traditions of the aforementioned formation, but also of the 5th Podhale Rifle Regiment of the 22nd Mountain Infantry Division (1918 – 1939). The Przemyśl battalion is one of the largest units of the 21st Podhale Rifle Brigade with headquarters in Rzeszów. After the ceremony, the Podhale Riflemen marched through the streets of Przemyśl to the barracks.
