On the railways in Germany there are many signals and signal boards that are related to the overhead line, the so-called contact wire! But what exactly do the terms overhead line, protective section, system change and the many other terms that are not necessarily self-explanatory in rail traffic mean? The signals covered are El 1v, El 1, El 2, El 3, El 4, El 5 and El 6. This video not only looks at the overhead line signals, but also the so-called ICE switch reminder (ICE board), the electrical section separation and the different voltages in the contact wire. The orientation signs from the German route network are also presented here in extracts. In addition, short excerpts from the history of the railways in Germany are examined in more detail. Towards the end of the video the overhead line insulators (also colloquially known as section insulators) are discussed. Video topics: 0:00 - 1:25 Introduction 1:25 - 2:50 Overhead line & history 2:50 - 4:00 Electrical signals & catenary signals 4:00 - 5:16 Catenary protection sections 5:16 - 7:38 Electrical signals & catenary signals 7:38 - 8:35 System change / system separation points 8:54 - 10:16 Orientation signs & additional comments 10:16 - 10:28 Overhead line insulators & section insulators 10:28 - 11:21 Disclaimer 11:21 - 12:31 Farewell And with that, have fun with the catenary signals in the standard gauge railway system for Germany. :D Additions: 1. On the Stadtbahn (S-Bahn Berlin), only the traction current is interrupted at electrical panels 1 and 2. 2. The El 6 signal board is now also available as an LED version. This signal can be switched off and has a display / signal image for inactivity. It is usually used when a section of overhead line can be switched on and off in factory halls. 3. In Germany, routes other than the Höllentalbahn / Dreiseenbahn were also supplied with other overhead line voltages. Only the best known are mentioned here. IMPORTANT!!!
