Carlos Drummond de Andrade's name is associated with the best of Brazilian literature. Drummond was one of those responsible for the renewal of national poetry in the 20th century. Under the influence of the modernists of 1922, he innovated in language and themes. Like few others, Drummond knew how to extract poetry from banal events, from the simple gestures of life, from his daily life and from the landscape that surrounded him. His poetry was simple and at the same time grand. This is why he became a popular author and at the same time admired and praised by critics. The author published 50 books including poems, anthologies, chronicles, short stories and children's literature. He received numerous awards and had his books translated, studied and published in several countries. That is why Drummond is included alongside the names of other great poets of the 20th century, such as Fernando Pessoa, Erza Pound, Yates, T. S. Eliot, Borges and Otávio Paz. This year, when Drummond's one hundred and tenth birthday is being celebrated, he was the great honoree of the Paraty Literary Festival. In De Lá Pra Cá, the life and work of the greatest Brazilian poet will be presented. The program will feature the professor of Brazilian Literature at UFRJ, Eucanaã Ferraz, the poet and editor of Cosac Naify Carlito Azevedo, the poet Armando Freitas Filho and the poet Claudia Roquette-Pinto.
